This series is rich in all genres, including humor, tragedy, romance, drama, action suspense, and even horror (if guys in eyeliner scare you, of course). Kagome Higurashi, your average 15-year-old Japanese school girl, falls down an ancient well on her family's property and winds up in the Feudal Era, where chaos and demons are everywhere. She teams up with the half demon Inuyasha to collect the shards of a sacred jewel that she accidentally broke.

There are many complexities within this story that make the characters seem real. For instance, there is a love triangle between Kagome, Inuyasha, and Inuyasha's first love, Kikyou. Kagome is often getting jealous because it seems Inuyasha is always running off to see Kikyou. Sango, a demon slayer, falls in love with the monk Miroku, but she often gets jealous since he's a major pervert and flirts with every girl he sees. Then there's the family issues: Inuyasha's older half brother, the full demon Sesshoumaru, hates him and is constantly trying to kill him. Sango's entire village was slaughtered except for her brother and herself, but her brother is under the control of the evil Naraku. Miroku was forced to watch as his father was sucked into a void known as the "wind tunnel", a curse given to the males of Miroku's family.

There's much, much more about this series. There is an abundance of characters, each having their own tragically unique stories. Every character is connected in some way, usually through the main villain, Naraku. The plotline is simple enough, though the details along the way are what truly make the show great. This was the first anime that I ever truly fell in love with, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.
